EARTH-KOTE PROCESS
Soil Encapsulation Process

The EARTH-KOTE PROCESS is a patented, 3 step COLOR
application which generates a non-skid, monolithic
surface. Its consolidation of the soil’s contaminated Earth-Kote 1 Clear
surface layer restricts the potential of treated asbestos Earth-Kote 2 Clear
fibers from becoming airborne. Earth-Kote 3 Black

EARTH-KOTE 1 and EARTH-KOTE 2 have been APPROXIMATE COVERAGE (Ft²/Gallon)*
developed to penetrate into the soil’s surface layer,
chemically react with each other and the soil, and bind Earth-Kote 1 20-40
the treated fibers in place. EARTH-KOTE 3 is a built up Earth-Kote 2 20-40
latex coating which quickly adheres to the newly Earth-Kote 3 40
encapsulated surface and forms a protective membrane
over the soil.
SOLIDS BY WEIGHT
Areas treated with EARTH-KOTE should be completely
functional for the activities normally undertaken in crawl Earth-Kote 1 31.5%
spaces, such as moderate maintenance work and Earth-Kote 2 44.4%
insulation repair. When the EARTH-KOTE PROCESS Earth-Kote 3 53.0%
has dried, it is highly resistant to the actions of water and
solvents. Additionally, when cured, the surface formed WEIGHT PER GALLON
by EARTH-KOTE should be capable of withstanding the
movement of light maintenance equipment, such as Earth-Kote 1 10.8 lbs
lightweight carts and wheel barrels. Earth-Kote 2 11.3 lbs

In direct contrast to the costly and time consuming
alternatives associated with contaminated soil, the ODOR, WET
EARTH-KOTE PROCESS is an inexpensive, effective
method for limiting exposure to soil which has been Earth-Kote 1 Mild

Earth Kote 3 .031 to .035 determine the procedure’s desirability and most effective coverage

APPLICATION SUGGESTIONS
The application of the EARTH-KOTE PROCESS shall be executed in accordance with all Federal, State and Local
regulations governing the safe and proper handling of asbestos-containing materials.

1. Carefully clean all loose debris from the intended work area. Place all debris into acceptable containers. Seal
containers and properly dispose of same.

2. Level the surface soil layer in the work area, eliminating peaks and valleys. Do not tamp down.

3. All standing water must be eliminated from the work area.

4. Adjust equipment to the lowest possible output setting still capable of spraying the materials. Keep the spray gun
perpendicular to the surface intended to be treated.

5. Apply EARTH-KOTE 1 in continuous passes until saturation (slight surface accumulation) is achieved. Allow
sufficient time, usually less than an hour, for EARTH-KOTE 1 to soak into the soil. DO NOT ALLOW EARTH-KOTE 1
TO DRY PRIOR TO APPLYING EARTH-KOTE 2.

6. Once EARTH-KOTE 1 has soaked into the soil, apply EARTH-KOTE 2 at the same coverage rate as EARTH-KOTE
1. Use continuous passes until saturation (slight surface accumulation).

7. Allow the treated area(s) to cure until the ground has hardened, usually 12 to 24 hours. Time will be dependent upon
physical conditions.

8. Apply EARTH-KOTE 3 to the treated surface to a minimum dry film thickness of 20 mils. Sand should be spread
during this application to enhance the membrane, Allow sufficient time for EARTH-KOTE 3 to cure before re-entry.
Time will be dependent upon physical conditions.

The EARTH-KOTE PROCESS is not recommended for sandy or beach-like conditions.

Light, powdery layer of soil must be removed prior to applying the EARTH-KOTE PROCESS.

Trial applications are strongly recommended to determine the procedure’s desirability and most effective coverage rate
for each step. Variations in soil will dictate lighter and/or heavier application rates for EARTH-KOTE 1 & 2. Always
apply EARTH-KOTE 3 to a minimum of 20 mils dry film thickness.

When soil conditions are very hard and/or dry, they should be dampened with a light mist of amended water before the
application of EARTH-KOTE 1. This should improve penetration. Avoid creating standing water.

FLUSH EQUIPMENT THOROUGHLY WITH WATER BETWEEN EACH STEP.
DO NOT ALLOW PRODUCTS TO REACT WITH EACH OTHER OR TO DRY IN EQUIPMENT
